Bring a photograph of something you want to paint.
Photos of still life, land, sea, animal, or anything that piques your interest.
We will learn painting techniques, and study how to really-see your subject matter. You can always learn something new and enjoy developing the artist inside you. Students will transfer photographs onto canvas using a simple grid. No drawing skills needed.

Supply List:
One- 18" x 24" Stretched Canvas or Canvas board.

Paint brushes (any and all sizes) Sizes (0-12+) (choose some small, as well as, larger brushes.) (Rounds, flats, glaze/wash brushes, liners, sponges, bristle brushes of synthetic fiber and/or natural hair (sable) Note: Bristle brushes work very well for this type of work. A variety in size and shape of brushes will create a more interesting painting. Also recommend one 1"1/2" or 2" angle (Looks like a brush for trim work) House paintbrush ok. Fan brush. (good for hair or grass) Palette knife.

Acrylic paints any and all that you want to use. : You will need a large tube of Titanium White (You will use more white) Tube paints are best if you want texture to your painting. You can also use the bottle type. Suggested colors: (Primary colors: Red, Blue, Yellow, ) Red: Cadmium Red medium or Alizarin Crimson. Blue: Ultramarine Blue, or Prussian Blue. Yellow: Cadmium Yellow medium, or light. and Ivory Black. /Optional: Sap Green, Yellow Ochre, Burnt Sienna, Burnt Umber.
Primarily, we are focusing on painting techniques, so don't panic if you don't have all of the colors.
Container for water.
One straight edge (ruler) 12 inch or larger

Large Tupperware container with lid (to use as your paint palette) Roll of paper towels and newspapers, Pencils and paper, Kneaded eraser, Spray bottle (for water) Hair Spray bottle with fine mist, works very well. (To spray your paint so it doesn't dry out too fast.)

Portable easel if you have one. (If not, we have a few on hand or we'll improvise!)

Your source photograph should be in focus and high quality. Scan your image and print it in a high resolution to give you the best detail from your computer. Enlarge your Photograph
(I recommend an 8x10). Or, have one printed out.

Note: printers will only print original photos. We suggest you use your own photos.
A magnifying glass can come in handy too.
